My banks Online Banking Account is screwing up?

February 22nd, 2010
no body asked:

About a month ago i got a nasty virus that messed my computer up to where i had to wipe it out clean.
The next day after i fixed it I tried logging into my Online banking account( i didnt log into it when i had the virus. I entered the pass word wrong twice and i got sent to a page saying i needed to call the bank. I tried to reset my password also and it said my email wasnt listed in the system. Turns out my account was removed like it was never there. I know a virus cant do that to a banking account.
I resigned up for it and got a new name and everything.

Today i tried to login again and got the password wrong some how( i know i got it right). Now it’s sayign the same darn thing.

Is it possible the bank is having trouble with it’s system and not know it?
My husband has had this account for over 6 years and online banking for almost 2 yrs. They updated to a new security system with in the year, I personaly **** it. I need this online account.
closing out the account wont be possible, Im no where near a place to have the new banking information given so my husbnads pay will be alloted into our account, plus we have so many other allotments being taken out that I can not change any information on. Suks a bit for me. My husband is in iraq and i moved back to our home state until he returns.

Can You Really Trust Online Banking?

February 22nd, 2010

There is no question that online banking makes things extremely convenient on people. It allows you to quickly manage your bank account and see where your balance is. But a question that is frequently asked is whether or not internet banking is safe.

This is an understandable question considering the circumstances. All the time there are movies made about internet hackers stealing people’s identities and bank account information. And while it is a common occurrence in movies, it does happen in actuality as well. As the internet has progressed over time, so too has the knowledge of internet hackers.

What you have to understand is banks have made this a top priority of theirs to ensure you and every other customer of theirs full security. Most online banks have a portion of their web site that is strictly devoted to explaining the measures they employ to protect you and your account.

While every bank is different, many have the same actions they take to keep you safe. Many bank systems employ the direct-modem connection, which eliminates any transactions even being transmitted online. If you do plan on making transactions over the internet, it is vital you make sure your bank is using high-end encryption.

In case you are unsure of what encryption is, encryption is the process taken to scramble data so that only the intended receiver can use it. You can tell if your bank offers a high-end encryption if the number of bits in an algorithm is high. The higher the number of bits, the better the encryption is.

What you really have to be cautious of is whether or not the banks security measures are operating while you are making any transactions. If they are not operating, you are essentially allowing anybody and everybody access to your account. You can tell if the security measures are working by seeing a closed padlock or a key icon, which demonstrates that the security is operating.

Aside from having a high-end encryption, banks also feature passwords and personal identification numbers giving you as much security as possible. Then, your PIN will have to be given every time you make a transaction within your account.

For obvious reasons, online security has been of utmost concern to consumers and banks. It is vital you make sure look into the security measures your bank provides. With the knowledge internet hackers have developed, you want to make sure your online banking is safe. As long as your bank provides the right measures, you will be able to practice safe internet banking.

Online Banking – Safety Tips For The Consumer

February 18th, 2010

As technology has improved significantly over the last decade, criminals have become proportionately smarter and savvier. This is especially true in the online world – the universe where crooks can hide behind e-mails, websites and fake personas. Unfortunately, these same criminals would like to find their way into your bank account. However, there are some simple tips that you can follow to make for a safe online banking experience.

PROTECT YOUR PASSWORD: Your password is the key that opens the gate to your online bank account. As such, crooks would love to know this vital piece of information. To prevent this, make sure your password is not too personal. Avoid using your birthday, phone number, or social security number in your password. Craft a password that is a combination of impersonal letters and numbers. The longer, the better. It is also recommended that you change your password every few months or so.

BEWARE OF SUSPICIOUS EMAILS: Those wanting to steal personal information online often resort to what is called “phishing”. In this practice, criminals may send emails asking for credit card info, PINs (personal identification numbers), or passwords. Crooks in the online banking world often send emails that seem to be from legitimate financial institutions. These emails can appear to be convincing because they contain the logo of a real online bank. However, these emails often contain a link that leads you to a fake site designed to lure you into compromising personal information.

These suspicious emails can be easily recognized because they will usually fail to address you correctly, they contain many grammatical errors and they have links to suspicious or unfamiliar domains. If an email is questionable, it is always safe to check with your financial institution. Legitimate emails from your online bank will typically follow the same standards each time. They will usually address you by your proper name and will never ask you for your password, PIN, or credit card information. A legitimate online bank will usually notify you of its security standards on their official site. If all else fails, then call customer service to get clarity on your bank’s security policies.

USE ANTI-VIRUS AND FIREWALL PROTECTION: When it comes to online banking, anti-virus software and firewall protection can prove to be invaluable. Be sure to get the best protection your money can buy. High prices don’t always guarantee the best quality. Shop around and consult computer experts or PC magazines to find the highest rated products. Anti-virus and firewall protection keeps your computer safe from viruses that can steal space on your computer’s hard drive or rob personal information from you.

COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR FINANCIAL INSTITUTION: Never hesitate to get help from your financial institution if you think you may have accidentally submitted your personal information to a fraudulent website. As a matter of fact, contact them quickly if this ever occurs. Also, be sure your bank has your current mailing address and phone number(s). If they wish to contact you with sensitive information, then they will likely make a phone call and/or send you something in the mail concerning the matter.

Online banking can be both a convenient and safe way to manage your finances. However, just as with anything else, the necessary precautions have to be taken in order to ensure the safest experience possible.
