the favorites button will be that little star to the left of the tab browser
Unless something strange happened it did not take off your favorites. They are a gold star under the blue back button.
You may also want to give a IE7 tweak a try.
That is the problem.. I did not like it at first but got used to it.. Your INFORMATION IS THERE.. you just have to look for it
