ING Group N.V. (NYSE: ING, Euronext: INGA) is a financial institution of Dutch origin offering banking, insurance and asset management services. ING is an abbreviation of Internationale Nederlanden Groep (English: International Netherlands Group).

As of 2009, ING Group covers 85 million private, corporate and institutional clients in over 40 countries with a workforce of over 125,000 people. It owns ING Direct, a virtual bank with operations in Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, UK, US and elsewhere. In the 2009 Forbes Global 2000, ING is the eighth-largest company in the world.

    For more info:

IngDirect has a branch on Howe Street, Vancouver, BC. The Bank provide excellent customer services. It pays higher interest rate than most other banks and they have a more flexible mortgage loans. One thing you should look into is their RRSP – Street Wise Fund. Your money are secured just like any other Chartered Banks so there is nothing to worry about. I am one of their customers and yes, they do provide debit cards and passbooks.

    For Canadian: Ingdirect.ca

ING Direct is primarily for online banking, but they do have physical branches in selected (usually big) cities. They also have a few ATMs, and do provide a bank card. However, the best way to bank with them is to have a checking account with a “normal” bank to facilitate transfer (deposit/withdrawals) of funds between ING and that account. The back and forth transfers normally take about one business day.

The funds deposited in ING are FDIC and CDIC insured. I have had accounts with them for several years, and I love dealing with them.

They gave me an ATM card with my electric orange checking if that helps. It’s not a mastercard, just an ATM card. They also allow you to write checks from their online interface. Oh yeah they also have competitive rates for CDs.
