I am a bussiness major and am taking a computer class and just realized I have an assignment due by tomorrow, I need to write a short essay about computer crimes/ identity theft from information that I can find on-line. Anyone know any good sites to get some good statistics or stories?

The first three look pretty good. Also look for ‘phishing’
Well, you’ll need to understand the measures taken for online protection. Look into SSL encryption, the requirements of getting an SSL certificate such as having a DUNS number, and DNS authority. A DUN and Bradstreet number (DUNS) is only given to verified businesses.
If you nail these topics, it will greatly impress your professor. A lot of people don’t know when to trust putting their information into a computer or not. He/She will be expecting to hear the same old tune that anything put into a computer can be viewed by anyone on the internet; it’s possible, but they won’t be able to read it. It took a math professor two weeks to decrypt a constant connection over ssl; who shops on the same website for two weeks straight without going anywhere else?
As my mentor would say “Baffle them with Bull***it”
There is a lot to the subject, maybe a little overwhelming for a short essay. I put a link below to a PCWorld article that can get you an over view that will define the problems, and general solutions. There is also resources there that will help you zoom in on a certain aspect, ie email phishing or whatever.
Good Luck!
