Im a little confused why the internet explorer always shuts down after I need my user name and p/w when I go on internet banking

First mistake is using it.. IE is known to have a lot of security “holes”. Download and install Mozilla Firefox and see if that helps.

you could use google chrome too or reformat your computer! scan for viruses as well

Listen to none of the above. Or do. Your choice. OK so, first things first, does anything weird happen when the computer crashes? A blue screen of death perhaps? If so, you probably have a virus. The computer normally crashes when it detects malicious software utilizing it. In this case it sounds like the computer is trying to protect you banking password from a key logger virus. These can be tricky ones because they install registry keys to your computers framework, which install other viruses that can potentially steal passwords and hack into accounts. Be very careful. My suggestion is to start the computer in Safe Mode, then install a virus program. My main preference would be Spyware Doctor. (It doesn’t rid your computer of the virus, but it will detect the registry key it has installed itself to). Another to try would be Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
If indeed this is a virus error, then do be careful. Mail me for more info, if the virus is detected.

Your computer are infected by spyware and malware.
To solve your problem:
1.install Spyware Terminator, Spybot Search and destroy, Malwarebytes Antimalware, and Adaware to check the spyware that infected your computer, if you can’t do this in normal mode, you can use safe mode.
2. Install the other antivirus like AVG or Avira and check your computer.
3. To completelly get rid the spyware and the virus,you had better format your computer and reinstall the windows to make sure that your computer are free from virus and spyware
