A lot of banks won’t deal with those kinds of places. And the payment will either not be processed or not be cashed on their part. Most of it is wired to another companies name or used with prepaid visa cards.
Banks can be held responsible per the “Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act”. From the article referenced below “The act prohibits Americans from using electronic funds transfers, credit cards, and checks in placing bets with gambling sites worldwide. The bill holds banks and credit companies responsible for enforcement of the law.”
In response to ibu guru’s comment “The person using the site is responsible. The banks are charged with enforcing the law, not taking responsibility for the user. BIG difference.” I was not intending to imply that the bank takes over responsibility from the user. The question is “Can banks be responsible for allowing internet gambling debt?” If banks allow it, thereby violating the bill as they are not enforcing as the bill demnds, tehy will be held responsible for their actions.
The bank has no liability whatsoever. Anyone who goes on a gambling site is solely and entirely responsible for what they do.
From Tony’s linkie — “The act prohibits Americans from using electronic funds transfers, credit cards, and checks in placing bets with gambling sites worldwide.”
The person using the site is responsible. The banks are charged with enforcing the law, not taking responsibility for the user. BIG difference.
Since internet gambling is illegal for anyone living in the United States no bank really allows you to break the law.
