A question asked by Michaelsgdec: Does internet and telephone banking make the distinction between savings and checking accounts obsolete?
I can instantly transfer funds from one to the other.
Doesn’t it make sense to leave all your money in savings, and only transfer the amount you need out the day you need it?
Most detailed answer:
Answer by Jill No, because another difference is that a savings account can accrue interest. Many people still use their savings account as a savings and not just a place to put their money until their checking account is empty again…
Question posed by vibsy: Internet Banking payment mistake. Will I lose my money?
I chose Internet Banking to transfer money to my overseas account but typed the wrong account number and sort code by mistake. Now the money has been debited from my account in UK. Bank say they will wait for few days. Will i lose my money? Pls help.
Most comprehensive answer:
Answer by padmedelacour That happened to my brother once. He lost a little bit of cash.
For Example, if you put in 100 $ and that happened you would probably lose 10-30 dollars. You shouldn’t lose all your money.
Question posed by Cellogirl91: Is it necessary to keep a check register, even w/ online banking?
My bank (and many others these days) offers online banking, which keeps track of all the money in my checking/savings accounts. Is it smart for me to still manually keep track of my spending with a check register, or can I rely just on the bank’s systems?
Best answer:
Answer by Woof Keep a register. Banks’ online systems are not “real time” and do not show unposted transactions.
Question posed by olly g: Internet banking question. Making payment from one bank to another.?
I’ve just made a payment via HSBC internet banking to someone holding an account with Lloyds TSB. All it required me to enter was their name, account number and their sort code.
Nothing required me to enter the bank name.
Could I have just paid an HSBC account holder with the same account/sort numbers or will it recognise those numbers as belonging to Lloyds TSB
Most comprehensive answer:
Answer by STEVEN F The sort code IS the bank’s name to the financial world.
