A question from Pickles: How do phishing emailers know I do online banking?
I have been getting many phishing emails lately and usually laugh at them because of their poor spelling and grammar but I was wondering how these people know to target me with online banking mail. Does everyone get them regardless?
The emails are always disguised as the bank I do banking with, have been for some time and I have never had one sent to me from the wrong bank, so they obviously know at least my bank. Maybe it’s those guys who go through my bins, but I shred everything and burn it.

They don’t know for sure, that is why it is called phishing. They throw the email out there and see who bites. Since a large percentage of the population uses online banking, it is a safe bet that they will find someone to respond.
The spammers have just harvest a bunch of email addresses from somewhere and you happened to be on the list.

A question from cruzjohnanthony: Will my over the counter transactions show up on my online banking account?
If i make a deposit to another account over the counter, will that transaction show up on my online banking account? how long until this transaction shows up? will it be immediate? do you know any banks who can do this?

Sorry, you can’t. Banks have their own independent systems and those systems are not interconnectable using the internet.

Question by sol93: I can’t set up internet banking on my computer using Windows Vista. Are there settings I should change?
Not sure if I should change the computer’s Security settings, or in the Norton Anti virus section. Has anyone had this happen before? The banking login page simply does not load properly.

Hi Yes you can use Internet bank on your computer, but first you need to go to your bank to get your login # and a temporary password which you can change later to one that suits you. There is no need to change

There is a position for an Internet Banking Representative in some bank in my country & this is what they wrote.
” Possess a strong background in Internet Banking or IT.
Solid understanding of Internet Banking product including marketing trends and techniques. ”
What does it mean exactly ? do I need to be a network geek or a database freak or something similar ?

It’s down for me too, can’t withdraw money at any cash machines either. The Halifax machines just say out of order and the others say there’s a problem with my bank.
