shiropou asked:

So I bought something online with my debit card, and everything went fine, the payment was approved ( by the merchant and i also checked online to see if the authorization was there – it was) and they have shipped the order out and gave me a tracking number. And now, two days later, I check my online banking statement and I find that the transaction is not there anymore and I got my money back. The problem is, the order has already been shipped. What do you think is going to happen?

I’m looking to open an online savings account- or at least one I can access online. I’m not opposed to actual branches either.

What are some good online banking companies to open savings accounts for my kids with higher interest rates? What are your good and bad experiences with the company you recommend?

Thank you!

Internet Banking

Internet banking refers to banking operations carried out between banks and their clients through Internet. It is also commonly known as online banking. Internet banking helps in expediting banking operations, reducing the cost and ensuring that you can utilize various banking services in your living room or even while traveling thousands of miles away from your home.

The process of Internet banking begins with every customer being given a unique user name and password by a particular bank. The customer can log on to the bank’s Web site and use this user name and password to access his or her bank account. Then he or she can give instructions online to the bank regarding any particular transaction.

All major banks provide the option of Internet banking to their customers. The banks keep a record of all online transactions. Though Internet banking is fast becoming the most popular mode of banking, there are certain security issues which still remain to be tackled. Though most of the banks claim that their Web sites have enough firewalls to prevent unauthorized access to anyone’s account, hackers have shown this claim to be false more than once.

There is always the possibility that you didn’t log out from your bank’s Web site according to the set procedure, as you were in a hurry while working on a public computer or over a non-secured wireless connection. This could have serious consequences, as someone else could misuse your account.

One important safety precaution is to keep changing the password at regular intervals. For safety purposes, it is better to memorize your user name and password than write it on a piece of paper. If you have forgotten or lost your password, call your bank immediately. They will either help you to retrieve your old password or give you a new password.

If you haven’t starting taking advantage of your bank’s online services, you should! Online banking has many advantages over traditional banking:

1. Download Banking Transactions. You can download your banking transactions directly into your financial software as often as you like. If you use your ATM card often, this is a must, because it keeps your bank balance current in your financial software. You won’t have to worry about keeping all those debit card receipts.

2. Download Credit Card Transactions. You can download credit card transactions directly into your financial software. Don’t waste time entering credit card charges by hand – download them! This is probably one of the biggest advantages of online banking, since entering credit card transactions manually can be very time consuming.

3. Online Bill Payment. Online bill payment is easier and less expensive than generating and mailing a paper check. Your bank may offer free bill pay services – if so, this saves the expense of ordering checks and buying stamps. Checks will be generated and mailed by your bank at your authorization. Plus, the checks will have the vendor names directly on your bank statements, next to the amount of the check and check number. This is not true for traditional checks.

4. Quickly Verify Bank Balances. If you need to verify your bank account balance, just signin to your bank’s online services. No more waiting for the bank statement, or calling the bank to get your balance. To get an accurate balance, take the bank’s balance as shown online, subtract any outstanding checks, and add any outstanding deposits.

5. Quit Paying Bills. Use your vendor’s auto-debit or auto-charge feature. Once established, your bill will be paid automatically through your bank or credit card account. This eliminates the step of manually paying the bill! Perfect for gas, electric, water, cable, phone, and other utility-type payments.

Save yourself time and money by taking advantage of online banking. Call your bank and credit card companies today to find out how to enroll in their online services.

Ok, well I live in the mid-west area, and only reason I’m really looking for a place to bank is because my new job is going to have direct deposits to a account so I’m really in need of one, without a opening fee and such. Plus I’m wondering if I HAVE to have a Joint account? Meaning my parents have to open it, then just add my name on there? …I’m just really confused, help would be very grateful.
